We will celebrate our history, our experience of God's
blessings for many generations, and our hope for the future
as people of God.
Historical Facts
1862 -
a new Wesleyan Methodist
Mission - Lucknow was formed. Meetings were first held
in a school house on Havelock Street.
1865 -
part of the member formed a new church
congregation called the New Connection. The reason for the
split was they wanted lay representation in the church.
Later they joined together as one church in 1875.
1868 -
the Wesleyan Methodist purchased land
on which to build a new church.
1883 -
a Ladies Aid Society was formed in the
Lucknow Methodist Church
1885 -
Lucknow Methodist Church built
a new church on the corner of Havelock and Campbell streets.
Opened and dedicated on
December 6th.
1886 -
first wedding in the new church
1907 -
an acetylene gas lighting
system was installed
1909 -
the pipe organ was installed
1910 -
the Official Board approved and
recommended repetition of the Lord’s Prayer by the congregation
at the morning service
1920 -
the church and parsonage were wired
for electric lighting
1925 -
The United Church of Canada was
formed and Lucknow United Church came into official existence.
1958 -
several memorial stained glass
window were dedicated
1963
the exterior of the church was
sandblasted to remove the red paint, originally painted in appr.
1927 and restore the brick surface
1969 -
Christian Education wing and
manse were built
1974 -
the new front entrance was
built
1994 -
Access Fund was started
1997 -
the new “Voices United” hymn
books were purchased
1996 -
work to change the roofline over the
choir room, minister’s study and lower hall began; work
continued into 1997
2002 -
kitchen was renovated
2004 -
our church Mission Statement was
adopted
2005 -
our church Vision Statement was
adopted
2007 -
plans are underway to build a lift and
renovate the church to make it more accessible
